Windows or something else?

Postby Canta86 » Wed Nov 07, 2012 8:31 pm

Hi everybody!!
This is my first post on this forum. I'm a physicist from Italy (so I'm sorry if there are some grammar errors) :)
I've been recently hired by an Italian firm, in a little quant team. At the moment I'm absolutely ignorant in financial-quant matters. :D
So, I've some unusual questions:
In my company, computers has Microsoft Windows as operating system. The main reason is the need to arrange the datas in Microsoft Excell tables. (personally I hate Windows)
Which operating system are used by the big firms in New York or London?
Are there unix-like systems? If yes, how do they solve the problem of Excell's absence?
thanks :)
