Academic careers in finance after being a quant?

Postby dp4 » Thu Feb 10, 2011 9:15 pm

This is a career question, but one I couldn't fit into any of the categories in the Career section of the forum..

I'll be finishing a PhD in theoretical physics soon. I was wondering if, after entering industry as a quant, it is possible to *return* to academia and obtain a tenured position, presumably in an economics or finance department. What does it take?

If you have had a similar experience, I would be particularly interested in hearing about it.

well I did it. I know other people who have done it.

e.g. Brigo

It tends to be people who have a decent publication list before going into quant, and have the rare quant job that allows publication.

I know at least one person who went back for a while and then returned to the city.
