Do quants value a FRM on a prospective candidate's CV?

Postby ashankar » Fri Feb 08, 2013 3:02 pm

Hi,

I'm a newbie in the quant world. Preparing to make an entry, actually. Have about 6 years of development experience at top rate financial services firms. All my experience has been developing apps for Sales and Trading, with about 2 years each across IRP, Equity Derivatives and Credit. I realized about a year ago I miss the math and started working towards refreshing my skills. I studied Physics in college and Stats + Computer Science in grad school. Recognized schools, especially the grad school.

I also took FRM 1 in 2011, cleared with 1st quartile in all sections. Am taking first shot at FRM 2 in November this year

How much do quants value a FRM. Do I stand a fair chance at getting an opportunity to work as a quant in derivatives pricing?

Thanks,
A

Hi Mark,

Appreciate if you could opine.

Hiring managers and FRM holders could kindly provide some perspective as well.

Thanks,

well it establishes a genuine interest in the material. However, quant managers tend not to value these qualifications and generally haven;'t done them.
